Q: what is the rate of twins born in

2009-10-16 21:14:16

A: In the United States, there is a 1.2% chance of a given pregnacy resulting in any type of twins. Of the 1.2%, 2 out of 3 are fraternal, not identical. As women get older or take fertility drugs their odds of fraternal twins increase. Women under 20 have a 0.3% change of bearing fraternal twins. Whereas, women from age 35 to 40 have a 1.4% chance of bearing fraternal twins (What are the odds of having twins?, iVillage).

Q: How does a thermas no the difference in hot and cold?

2009-08-22 03:06:47

A: Thermoses provide insulation that reduces heat transfer. Basically, they just protect against any temperature change to the contents. They have no "knowledge" of the specific temperature of the content versus the environment. This works out, because the second law of thermodynamics tells us that heat transfer can only occur from a hotter object to a colder object. Thus, we can state more specifically, that thermoses prevent external heat from entering and heating the contents. Similarly, they prevent internal heat from "escaping" and heating the external environment, thereby cooling the internal contents of the thermos.
